Despite the 80-year-old's popularity, speculation is rife that he will not be knighted in the New Year honours list and will have to wait until 2010 for the honour.

But in a show of support thousands of people have joined Facebook groups, including one called Give Bruce Forsyth a Knighthood, which has almost 15,000 members.
